Child Visa

A child Visa allows a child to stay in Australia permanently with their parents.

Child visa is of two types:

Child Visa (Subclass 101): this is for the child who is outside Australia and willing to come to Australia to stay with their parents.

Child Visa (Subclass 802): this visa for the child who is in Australia and applying to stay in Australia with their parents.

To be eligible for the child visa, child must be single and there are special age requirements applicable. The child’s sponsor is usually their parent who is an Australian citizen, the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or an eligible New Zealand citizen. The spouse or de facto partner of the child’s parent can also sponsor the child and they must also be an Australian citizen, the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or an eligible New Zealand citizen.

To get this visa, the child must be:

Ø sponsored by their parent or their parent’s partner ;

Ø single and

Ø one of the following:

    1. younger than 18 years of age (and not adopted)
    2. adopted (and under 18 when adopted)
    3. full-time student between 18 and 25 years of age, or
    4. 18 or older and unable to work due to a disability and dependent on the sponsoring parent.
