Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489)

This visa allows skilled workers to live and work in regional or low-population growth metropolitan areas of Australia for up to four years.

This visa has three streams:

1.    Extended stay stream:

This stream is for applicants who already hold one of the eligible visas and complied with all the visa conditions for at least two years before applying the visa. This is only available if applicant never held more than one of these visas.

2.    The Invitation stream:

Under Invitation stream, you must be either nominated by State or Territory Government for regional or low population growth area or sponsored by Australian Relative living in designated area.

3.    The Subsequent Stream:

This stream is available to applicants willing to join as a member of family unit of some one who already holds skilled regional (provisional) visa or subclass 475, 487,495, or 496 visas.


Minimum Visa requirements

Ø hold a subclass 475, 487, 495 or 496 visa (Extended Stay stream)

Ø be nominated by a state or territory government agency or be sponsored by an eligible relative (Invited stream)

Ø be invited to apply (Invited stream)

Ø have a relevant occupation

Ø have a suitable skills assessment for the occupation

Ø meet the points test pass mark of 60 points

Øbe under 45 years of age at time of invitation
